2022 Nissan Frontier Vs 2022 Toyota Tacoma

The midsize pickup truck segment of the automotive industry is quickly becoming one of the most competitive classes in the world. Nissan is particularly well-suited to take the lead in the class now that its Frontier model has been completely redesigned for the upcoming model year.

A comparison between the 2022 Nissan Frontier vs. 2022 Toyota Tacoma will show just how capable the Nissan pickup truck will be when it goes on sale. Largely speaking, the 2022 Frontier will offer more power, better towing capacity and higher payload hauling capability than its Toyota rival. Friendship Nissan customers will be able to find the 2022 Frontier in four trim grades, S, SV, PRO-X and PRO-4X.

Performance Specs, Connectivity Gear And Safety Technology

Regardless of how big (or small) a pickup truck may be, its owner is expecting it to perform up to a certain standard. The 2022 Frontier should have very little trouble meeting, if not exceeding, those expectations. The naturally aspirated 3.8-liter, V-6 engine, that is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, used by the 2022 Nissan Frontier will make 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. This is the most powerful base engine in the midsize pickup truck segment. For comparison, base models of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline use a 2.7-liter, four-cylinder engine making 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. Owners of the 2022 Frontier will be able to tow at least 6,720 pounds. The 2022 Tacoma has a base towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. A 2022 Frontier also has a higher payload capacity than the Ridgeline.

Connectivity And Safety Technology

Both pickup trucks will offer access to the Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ suites of applications. However, the 2022 Nissan Frontier will use a 9-inch touchscreen to control its multimedia system; the 2021 Honda Ridgeline is only available with an 8-inch touchscreen. Nissan has also made a high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot available in some of the upper trims of the 2022 Frontier. There is no version of the 2022 Toyota Tacoma that offers a similar capability.

The 2022 Frontier is equipped with a standard forward-collision warning system, the only one in its industry segment. Friendship Nissan customers can also add a class-exclusive traffic sign recognition. Owners of the current Toyota Tacoma will have its own suite of safety systems but not all features are available on all trims and not all of them will match what is available with the 2022 Nissan Frontier.
